Sustainable Communities Symposium 2000 Agenda

May 11, 12, 13, 2000

Planning to Stay!
Northeast Ohio Working Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow

A three-day event that brought together innovative ideas and strategies to make Northeast Ohio a national leader in collaborative planning for a competitive economy, healthy environment, and vibrant communities today and in the future.

Around the world people are improving their quality of life in ways that balance economic progress, social equity, and long-term protection of the environment. Now you can join an unprecedented array of local businesses and government, civic, and academic organizations to forge a common vision of how these principles can work for Northeast Ohio

Are you planning to stay in Northeast Ohio?

Join hundreds of others in setting a new sustainable course for our region to:

  • Shape its growth
  • Protect its natural assets, and
  • Enhance its economic, competitive edge

  • SCS 2000 was a three-day, unique opportunity that started to:

Initiate a Regional Dialogue among individuals and organizations with innovative ideas and new strategies to make this region a national leader in building vibrant communities.

Create an Action-Oriented Agenda to achieve our common vision for the region. Four Working Groups - Architecture & Urban Design, Business & Economics, Infrastructure and Political & Legal - have developed regional priorities over the past eight months. At the symposium they will present their drafts for consideration and refinement by a wider audience.

Build a Strong Coalition in Northeast Ohio that capitalizes on what's working and gives us tools to change what needs to be changed.

Let's make smart decisions so that Northeast Ohio is a great place - for us and for our children.

This is the beginning of an exciting process! Be a part of it - you'll enjoy the company!

    SCS 2000 Long Term Goals

  • Maximize individual and community capacity to meet basic human needs
  • Minimize harm to the natural environment
  • Promote businesses and organizations that strive to improve the quality of life
  • Ensure that future generations can meet their needs
